Ankio Brigg’s minority report splits National Conference

Ms. Briggs, a Niger Delta activist, said she disagrees with the main report of her committee.

A minority report submitted by Ankio Briggs, a member of the National Conference Committee on Devolution of Powers, has split delegates.

Ms. Briggs presented her minority report on Thursday morning, after the committee’s co-chairmen, Victor Attah and Ibrahim Coomassie, submitted the main report.

Ms. Briggs, a Niger Delta activist, said she disagrees with the main report of her committee.

However, a delegate, Bello Haliru, raised a point of order saying the rules of the confab do not allow for a minority report because it states that only consensus or 70 per cent would be adopted.

More debates thus followed the minority report, whose content had been reported by PREMIUM TIMES.

Ms. Briggs had in her report supported increase in derivation to resource producing states to at least 50 per cent from current 13 per cent, as well as state police; issues rejected by her committee.

    ISLAM; OIC AND NIGERIA

This committee is still avoiding one of the most crucial points in the whole Conference:

Should Nigeria continue as a member of OIC or other organisations of Islamic countries ? It is crucial and urgent. As long as you are not handling this, you are only wasting your time there.

The performance of southern delegates in this committee is extremely disappointing. It appears that they are only there to say YES, YES YES to the Islamists.

Ike Nwachuku, Atta, Brigs, all the southern and middle belt delegates, it’s now up to you. Pull the bull by the horn and rattle the hypocrites so that we shall know what is left of Nigeria . ..

Well Ms Briggs. You are the only proper representative of the SS at the conference. We are solidly behind you.

WHO CARES?? PLEASE LET’S CALL OFF THE BLUFF OF THE NIGER DELTA PEOPLE. THEY SHOULD EVEN TAKE 100% OF THE PROCEEDS OF THE CRUDE OIL, WHILST ALL OTHER REGIONS SHOULD ALSO TAKE 100% OF THE PROCEEDS OF WHAT THEY PRODUCE. THEY WILL KNOW THE REALITY WHEN THEY START BUYING ONE PIECE OF TOMATO AT $10 US DOLLARS. ENOUGH OF THIS BLACKMAIL OF RESOURCE CONTROL.

No point blabbing in capital letters. Just do it.

Her region produces the oil you an your fat northerners feed on, whose problem will the environmental degradation in the Niger Delta be?is it going to be yours or theirs?Tolerance am sure is missing from your vocabulary. If she is calling for an upward review of the oil proceeds she and her people have every right to do so. am sure by the time you start selling a apiece of tomato for $10 dollars you’ll be selling your cows too for $10000

My dear Guest, you have gotten the point. What you people have failed to appreciate and explain, due to the parochial manner you look at these issues, is that you have not questioned where the allocations for OMPADEC, NDDC, SUBSISTING 15% Derivation funds etc etc etc are being channeled to, by your leaders all these years. Whereas, some of them use them judiciously, majority of them divert the proceeds to their pockets. And so as to take away your thoughts from reality, they make people like you to ask for more. That is why, people like me, are supporting that they should be given 100% of what they generate ditto all other regions, or states or local government. Or are we wrong also for us demand maximally for what we produce????????

Ms Briggs how much of the 50% derivation should be from offshore? Honestly speaking why should the ND claim what is offshore. Let there be 100% control of all onshore resources by the states. Prune down your request to the onshore oil.
