Skit-making in Nigeria has evolved from traditional communal satire to a multi-billion-Naira digital industry.

According to a 2025 Forbes Africa report, Dataleum, a global talent accelerator, ranks skit-making as the third-largest entertainment industry in Nigeria, with a net worth exceeding ₦50 billion ($31.2 million).

While skit-making started as a male-dominated industry, with the likes of Broda Shaggy, Mr Macaroni and others calling the shots, Nigerian women are currently redefining the landscape of social media comedy.

The recent trend shows that the ladies have moved from supporting roles to helming some of the continent’s most exciting skit contents.

Taaooma

Maryam Apaokagi Adedoyin, popularly known as Taaooma, is a leading Nigerian comedian, content creator, and cinematographer, celebrated for her unique family-themed comedy skits.

She started as Iya Tao, the disciplinarian mother, known for her backhanded slaps that trigger the reset on her errant daughter, Tao.

Today, she has transformed into playing multiple characters and has featured some of the biggest names in the Nigerian and global movie industries, including American star Terry Crews.

Maraji

Maraji, whose real name is Gloria Oloruntobi, is a prominent Nigerian comedian, actress, and digital content creator known for her highly relatable social media skits

Before gaining fame for her comedy skits, Maraji was known for lip-syncing and miming songs.

Her character-based skits mimic diverse Nigerian personalities. She is also famous for parodying the signature overbearing Nigerian mother.

Mummy Wa

Kemi Ikuseedun, better known as Mummy Wa, is an actress, comedian and skit maker.

Also known as Kemz Mama, her comedy career piggybacks on her recurring role as Mummy Wa, the wife of Mr Macaroni (Daddy Wa), in his viral comedy skits.

Beyond short-form comedy, she is also an actress and producer of ‘My Sunshine’ (2024), a Nigerian project influenced by Korean drama elements.

Dat Warri Girl

Oluwatoyin Albert, widely known as Dat Warri Girl or Tomama, is a popular Nigerian multi-talented entertainer who gained fame for her comedy skits.

Famous for her bold “Warri” persona and pidgin English skits, she started as the mischievous love interest of a faceless character, Topapa.

Her successful comedic portrayals have earned her recurring roles in popular sitcoms, including ‘Visa on Arrival’, where she plays Charity, and ‘Flatmates’, where she plays Tejiri, among other acting gigs.

Not to be confused with Dat Warri Girl, Real Warri Pikin is a character created by Anita Asuoha.

She is celebrated for her relatable storytelling and for using Warri pidgin and slang to flavour her comedy content.

Also known for her energetic stage presence, she recently sold out shows in the USA, including Maryland, as part of her ‘Unapologetically Me’ tour.

She is an advocate for mental health and women’s empowerment.

Nons Miraj

Chinonso Ukah, famously known as Nons Miraj, is a prominent content creator, actress, and host of the popular ‘Hunt Game Show’.

In addition to her comedic prowess, Miraj has made a name for herself with her engaging social media content, especially the viral ‘The Hunt Game Show’.

She is also known for featuring her mother in her videos.

Emmanuella

Emmanuella Samuel, known as Emmanuella, is famous for her roles in the Mark Angel Comedy series.

She gained international recognition at age five for her sharp wit and natural comedic timing, particularly for her signature phrase, “This is not my real face.”

Now 16, Emmanuella stands as one of the wealthiest female skit makers in Nigeria, largely from her long-standing YouTube success and brand endorsements.

Sharon.e.wealth

A new age skit maker, Sharon Eichie, professionally known as Sharone.e.wealth, is recognised for her comedic skits that often humorously depict everyday life in African households.

Some of the themes she addresses include relationships, sibling rivalry and of course, the always relatable overbearing mother.

Despite being relatively new, Sharon has built a significant following across major platforms, with her following running into the millions.

Jadrolita

Jadrolita, a popular Nigerian content creator and social media influencer, gained fame for her unique ability to mimic AI robots and cartoon characters.

Real name Amadou Elizabeth Aminata, she is often referred to as Nigeria’s first “human AI” due to her robotic movements, speech patterns, and futuristic persona.

According to reports, she signed a significant contract worth ₦200 million to serve as the face of a Chinese robotics company.

Although she gained fame for her AI role, she is set to pivot into acting, music videos, and dancing.

Reports say that she is also working on a project titled ‘Elizabeth & Family’ focused on African family values.

Bimbo Ademoye

Others may have started as skit makers and then transitioned into acting, but Bimbo Ademoye’s journey into the world of online comedy is the other way around.

The celebrated Nigerian actress successfully transitioned into a powerhouse in the skit-making and digital content space, creating multiple characters for her diverse audience.

One of her most iconic comedic personae is Iya Barakat, a local, loud, and hilarious woman often involved in various mishaps.

She also produces Teropi Secxxion (Therapy Session), a popular recurring series in which she plays a quirky therapist/counsellor who offers “advice” to various guests, often played by other celebrities.

Neekah

Real name Rita Ginikachukwu Uwayah, Neekah is a prominent Nigerian content creator, influencer, and entrepreneur.

She is widely recognised for her signature comedic skits, in which she uses a distinctive face filter (exaggerated large eyes), a large brown suit, and a loaf of sliced bread.

Her tendency to mimic the viral sermons of Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, also sets her apart as a skit maker.

Soso

Popular Nigerian content creator, comedian, and actress, Sophia Chisom Ikemba, who goes by the stage name Soso, is widely recognised for her relatable comedic skits on TikTok and Instagram.

One of her most viral personae is the ‘Pure Water’ seller, a humorous street hawker who navigates the struggles of street life with wit and sharp-tongued humour.

She also frequently portrays a house assistant who finds herself in funny domestic situations, such as job interviews or dealing with demanding bosses.
