The German President, Frank Steinmeier, has condemned the US foreign policy under Donald Trump, stating it could turn the world into a “den of robbers.”
PREMIUM TIMES reports that Germany is a key US ally and a member of NATO. It also houses the largest US base in Europe. Mr Steinmeier’s comment thus indicates the concern US allies have about the Trump administration.

According to a Reuters report, Mr Steinmeier declared that democracy was under attack due to the actions of the Trump administration.
“Then there is the breakdown of values by our most important partner, the USA, which helped build this world order.

“It is about preventing the world from turning into a den of robbers, where the most unscrupulous take whatever they want, where regions or entire countries are treated as the property of a few great powers,” he said.
His statement refers to the ongoing effort by the US to seize control of Venezuelan oil.
PREMIUM TIMES reported that, on Saturday, the US military attacked the South American country and abducted President Nicholas Maduro and the First Lady Cilia Flores.
They were charged in a US court over allegations of narco-terrorism, corruption, and drug trafficking.
Mr Trump, who had earlier pledged to ‘take back’ Venezuelan oil reserves, disclosed on Tuesday that Venezuela would turn over between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the US.
He declared that the interim authority in Venezuela, led by Delcy Rodriguez, would be responsible for facilitating this supply.
The US also stated that it will control the sale of Venezuelan oil “indefinitely” and decide how the proceeds of those sales are used.
Mr Trump has also threatened to take control of Greenland.
Shortly after the abduction of Mr Maduro, Mr Trump told reporters that he would “talk about Greenland in 20 days.”
He has cited security concerns as justification for the proposed annexation of the island. His recent comment on the semi-autonomous island disturbed European leaders, many of whom have declared support for the island and for Denmark.

However, the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said Mr Trump and his national security team have “actively discussed” the option of buying Greenland.
“He views it in the best interest of the United States to deter Russian and Chinese aggression in the Arctic region. And so that’s why his team is currently talking about what a potential purchase would look like,” she said.
