Chanel Chin, ex-wife of the Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has reacted to the allegations he made against her and the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that Mr Akanbi alleged that the Ooni planted Ms Chin in his palace to kill him and further alleged that she poisoned him on three occasions.

He also accused the Ooni of engaging in extramarital relations with Ms Chin and questioned the paternity of her son, Oduduwa.
This newspaper earlier reported that in December 2019, Mr Akanbi, through his spokesperson, Alli Ibraheem, announced his separation from Ms Chin, citing “personal irreconcilable differences.”

Ms Chin is the daughter of Jamaican reggae star Ludlow “Bobo Zaro” Chin, best known for his song “Pain,” which he co-wrote with Capleton.
Reacting to Oluwo’s allegations in a statement posted on her Instagram page on Friday, Ms Chin described the allegations as false and misleading.
She noted: “My attention has been drawn to recent allegations in the media, purportedly involving His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife. I categorically state that these claims are false, misleading, and damaging to our sacred Yoruba traditional institution.
“For the record, I was introduced to Mr Akanbi by a respected Lagos monarch, not by the Ooni of Ife. While as Olori Oluwo, I regarded this Lagos monarch as my royal father and still do with respect.”

Ms Chin further clarified that the Ooni did not introduce her to the Oluwo with any malicious intent.
She also alleged that Mr Akanbi had failed to fulfil his responsibilities as a father to Oduduwa.
“I fondly recall visiting this monarch and his Olori in Lagos with Mr Akanbi and baby Prince Oduduwa— cherished memories.
Mr Akanbi has been absent from Prince Oduduwa’s life for over five years. He only resurfaced in August this year in Canada, refused to sign the passport papers, but dropped $500—the first support Oduduwa had ever received from him since we left the palace.

“Despite this, I have shouldered the full responsibility of raising my son, while always advocating for peaceful co-parenting.
I therefore plead with the public to disregard all falsehoods against the Ooni of Ife, our foremost monarch. I also urge the traditional institution to caution Mr Akanbi from further degrading the sacred throne he once occupied. This shall be my final statement on the matter”, said Ms Chin.
She added that Oduduwa remained her beloved son and that she deeply loved and respected the Yoruba people.
