The Rivers House of Assembly has served a notice of alleged misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu, according to Channels TV.
This is the second time since Mr Fubara was sworn in in 2023 that lawmakers have attempted to impeach the governor.

Mr Fubara has been engaged in a protracted political battle with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, to control the political structure in the state.
Speaker of the assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 26 lawmakers are loyal to Mr Wike, while three are loyal to Mr Fubara.

In a notice dated 14 March 2025 and addressed to Mr Amaewhule, the 26 lawmakers, among other things, accused Governor Fubara of spending Rivers funds without approval from the state assembly and appointing people to run the government without required screening and confirmation.
The lawmakers also accused Governor Fubara of hindering or obstructing the assembly from its constitutional functions and seizing salaries, allowances, and funds belonging to lawmakers, clerk, and the assembly.

According to the Channels TV report, the lawmakers accused the Deputy Governor, Mrs Odu, of “conniving and supporting the illegal appointment of persons to occupy offices/positions in the Rivers State Government without allowing for the requirement of screening and confirmation”.
The speaker, who reportedly forwarded the notice to Governor Fubara, said the 26 members who signed it are not less than one-third of the members of the assembly as prescribed by the Nigerian Constitution.
He asked the governor to reply to the allegations of gross misconduct.
Governor Fubara was yet to react to the development at the time of filing this report.
