A police constable has been killed by suspected bandits during an attack on the official residence of a divisional police officer (DPO) in Aujara, Jahun Local Government Area, Jigawa State.
The incident occurred over the weekend, according to residents.
The death of the constable, identified as Nura Garba, was confirmed by the District Head of Aujara, Aminu Dankade, in a statement posted on Facebook.
“This is PC (Police Constable) Nura Garba Jahun serving in my District Aujara Divisional police office. He was killed by unknown gunmen. May God Almighty reward him with Jannah,” the traditional leader posted.

The motive for the attack remains unknown. However, residents have speculated that the assailants may have targeted the DPO due to his handling of a specific case or ongoing issues within the division.
The police spokesperson, Lawan Adam, has not issued a statement on the incident and could not be immediately reached for comment.

This deadly attack is the latest in a series of attacks on security personnel across the northern states.
A similar incident recently occurred in neighbouring Bauchi State, where suspected bandits reportedly killed five police officers.
