Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has flagged off the construction of 102 new schools and the renovation of 170 existing schools and learning centres across the state’s 23 local government areas under the Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) project.
Mr Sani said the initiative is part of his administration’s broader strategy to expand access to quality education and drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children in the state.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, the governor described the project as a significant milestone in Kaduna’s efforts to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and achieve their potential.
He said the programme represents more than the beginning of infrastructure development but a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to education as a foundation for sustainable development.

“This important milestone represents far more than the commencement of physical works. It reflects our administration’s unwavering commitment to expanding access to quality education and ensuring that every child in Kaduna State is given the opportunity to learn, grow, and fulfil their potential,” Mr Sani said.
The governor noted that since assuming office on 29 May 2023, his administration has placed education at the centre of its development agenda, describing it as the most powerful instrument for social mobility and long-term stability.
He revealed that deliberate reforms and strategic investments in the sector have already produced measurable outcomes.
“Within two years, we have reduced the number of out-of-school children in Kaduna State from about 550,000 to 187,720. In the next one year, our administration is determined to bring the number of out-of-school children in Kaduna State to zero,” he said.
According to him, the state government has also made major investments in education infrastructure and learning facilities to support the growing demand for quality education.
Mr Sani said the government has constructed 62 new secondary schools across the three senatorial zones and commenced work on 50 additional schools.
He added that hundreds of classrooms have been built or renovated, while more than 81,000 units of furniture have been supplied to improve the learning environment in public schools.
The governor also said improvements have been made in water and sanitation facilities in schools, alongside the establishment of vocational training centres aimed at promoting skills-based education among young people.
“Education remains the greatest weapon against multidimensional poverty. Societies that invest intentionally in the minds and capabilities of their young people invariably build stronger and more prosperous futures,” he said.
Mr Sani also acknowledged the support of international development partners working with the state government to expand educational opportunities.
These include the Islamic Development Bank, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Global Partnership for Education, Education Above All, and Save the Children International.
The governor said the presence of community leaders, traditional institutions, civil society organisations and development partners at the ceremony further demonstrated a shared commitment to improving education in Kaduna State.
“We remain resolute in building an education system that leaves no child behind,” he said.
