The Government of Jigawa State, under the leadership of Governor Umar Namadi has introduced a landmark free treatment programme for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The Technical Adviser to the Governor on Health, Isa Surajo, announced the development in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Monday.
Mr Surajo said the free treatment programme covered diabetes, hypertension, and sickle cell disease, adding that the beneficiaries are entitled to free treatment as both outpatients and inpatients.
“Eligible patients will receive comprehensive care, including Laboratory investigations, Radiological services (X-rays and ultrasounds) Essential medications and Physiotherapy”, the official statement added.
The services are currently available in general hospitals at Dutse, Hadejia, Gumel, Kazaure, Ringim, Birnin Kudu, Jahun, Babura, Kafin Hausa and Birniwa as well as cottage hospitals at Bulangu and Gwaram.

“All Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Special Assistants in the Health Sector, as well as the management of various hospitals and communities, are hereby directed to ensure that non-beneficiaries do not abuse this privilege, thereby guaranteeing seamless and quality service delivery and safeguarding the program against misuse”, Mr Surajo said.
