Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, has commended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria for maintaining the academic standards that have distinguished it since establishment in 1962. The governor declared that the institution has continued to trail the glory of its founding father, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of the defunct Northern Region.
Governor Radda made the remarks while playing host to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Adamu Ahmed, at Government House, Katsina. He described ABU as among Nigeria’s leading institutions, attributing its sustained excellence to the sincere intention behind its establishment. “The glory of the university remains ever present. We take pride in being products of Ahmadu Bello University,” Mr Radda, who is an alumnus of the institution asserted.

The governor further stressed that every northerner must feel proud of the region’s premier institution, regardless of their state of origin. He noted that Katsina State’s history remains incomplete without acknowledging ABU’s significant contributions to the state’s development. He recalled former Governor Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s passion for education, which led to his instrumental role in establishing ABU’s School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS) in Funtua. Governor Radda pledged to attend the university’s forthcoming 45th convocation ceremony if his schedule permits.

Earlier, Prof Ahmed explained that the delegation visited to condole with the governor and Katsina people over former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death. The Vice-Chancellor also commiserated with Mr Radda over his recent road accident during official duty, expressing relief over his recovery. “News of your recovery brought excitement to ABU staff and students who remain proud of your resilience and devotion to duty,” Prof Ahmed told the governor.
The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Governor Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, Principal Private Secretary Aliyu Turaji, and commissioners from relevant ministries. The ABU delegation included Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Advancement, Research and Innovation), Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi; Registrar, Rabiu Samaila; and Dean of Students, Prof Sahalu B Junaidu.
Other members were Prof Sani Abba Aliyu (Director, Directorate of Advancement and International Education); Prof Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi (former ABU Teaching Hospital CMD and pioneer Federal University Lokoja VC); and executive directors of various university institutes.
