Galatasaray head into Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League showdown against Manchester City with history firmly within reach and ambition driving every step to the Etihad Stadium.
For the Turkish giants, qualification for the knockout rounds remains the immediate objective. But beyond survival, there is a far bigger landmark in sight. Galatasaray are just two goals away from becoming the first Turkish club to reach 250 goals in the European Cup and Champions League combined, a milestone that would cement their legacy on the continent.

The Nigerian striker has been the spearhead of Galatasaray’s European campaign, scoring six goals in five Champions League matches this season, even though he was kept quiet in the recent 1–1 draw with Atletico Madrid.

Since arriving in Istanbul, Osimhen’s output has been relentless with breathtaking goals, including decisive European strikes against Liverpool, Bodø/Glimt and Ajax. Fresh from helping Nigeria secure third place at the Africa Cup of Nations, he will once again shoulder Galatasaray’s attacking hopes.
He will not be alone. Former City stars İlkay Gündoğan and Leroy Sané are expected to play key supporting roles against their old club, adding an extra layer of narrative to a high-stakes night.
A tight Champions League picture
Beyond the records and individual storylines, the competitive context is unforgiving.
Manchester City enter the final round of the league phase 11th, narrowly outside the top eight on goal difference. Galatasaray sit 17th, three points off the automatic qualification places but still holding a slim buffer over the teams chasing them. Galatasaray arrive as underdogs and with their own absentees, yet their European résumé this season commands respect. They have already beaten Liverpool and Bodø/Glimt; the same Norwegian side that recently stunned City, underlining their capacity to disrupt even the strongest opponents.
