Pharmaceutical society commends Adamawa infrastructure, health drive, calls for wider reforms

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has commended the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, for what it described as significant improvements in healthcare delivery and infrastructure, urging other state governments to prioritise similar reforms.

The President of the society, Ayuba Ibrahim, gave the commendation in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Monday upon his arrival in Yola for the 2026 colloquium.

Mr Ibrahim said developments across the state reflect “visionary leadership and purposeful governance,” noting that the scale and quality of inaugurated and ongoing projects have transformed the state capital into a modern urban centre.

He described Yola as a city with a difference, where strategic infrastructure is being combined with efforts to build a functional healthcare system.

People-centred reforms

According to the statement, Mr Ibrahim said the Fintiri administration has pursued people-centred reforms that are repositioning Adamawa as a model of economic vitality and progressive leadership.

He commended the governor’s efforts to sanitise the healthcare sector, as well as investments in medical infrastructure and the pharmaceutical value chain, noting that such initiatives align with the society’s vision of a secure and functional health system.

“I sincerely commend the governor for his foresight in ensuring economic growth through infrastructural excellence,” he said.

He added that the level of commitment seen in Adamawa could help strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s health system, while urging other governors to emulate similar steps by prioritising healthcare as a pillar of development.

Also speaking, a past president of the society and lead speaker at the event, Olumide Akintayo, said any governor who prioritises healthcare demonstrates an understanding of its importance to citizens’ wellbeing.

He said such leadership reflects a commitment to protecting lives, stressing that the pharmaceutical sector remains the bedrock of any functional healthcare system.

Mr Akintayo added that this underscores the importance of sustained political will in improving health outcomes.

Similarly, another former president of the society, Cyril Odianose Usifoh, said the gathering of professionals in Yola is a reflection of the enabling environment created by the state government.

He noted that the state’s readiness to host the high-level event at the Government House Banquet Hall highlights its growing capacity for scientific and professional engagements.

Future ambitions

The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on pharmaceutical matters, Nwaka Ohuama, said the state’s ongoing health sector reforms are strategically designed to position Adamawa as a hub for medical tourism in sub-Saharan Africa.

“We are not just treating patients; we are building a global healthcare brand,” he said.

Mr Ohuama added that the visible progress across the state reflects the fulfilment of promises made by the administration to the people.

In his remarks, Mr Fintiri assured members of the society that the state government would work closely with them to deliver a hitch-free, world-class colloquium.

The society also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the administration’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand access to safe, quality medicines, expressing hope that the current pace of development would be sustained.
