Afrobeats star David “Davido” Adeleke has disclosed he is not considering a career in politics despite his family’s long history in government and his active role in his uncle Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign in Osun State.
The singer said this on X in response to fans and other users who urged him to run for political office after his involvement in the campaign that secured his uncle’s re-election as governor.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that the “Timeless” hitmaker led the youth campaign mobilisation team for his uncle, the Accord Party (AP) flagbearer.
During Saturday’s election, Davido also urged officials to use the front camera on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) when the device’s other camera stopped working. He also accused some politicians of attempting to rig the election and create trouble before and during the poll.

In his post on Monday, the “Unavailable” hitmaker said he had completed his role in the election, suggesting that he had no plans to move from political activism into an official political position.
“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!! You guys are ruthless and disgusting! Eeewwww!
“I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil, and I don’t want to be a part of it till God help us,” said Davido.
The political system
This is not the first time the singer has raised concerns about the lack of transparency in Nigeria’s political system. During a livestream session with Carter Efe ahead of the just-concluded Osun State governorship election, Davido discussed his political ambitions and questioned the credibility of the country’s electoral process.
He said his popularity and strong public support could give him an advantage in politics. Still, he stressed that he would only consider contesting an elective office when Nigeria guarantees free, fair and credible elections.
Davido added that he would defeat any opponent if the election remained transparent and voters turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
Backstory
Davido’s remarks about his reluctance to enter politics followed his congratulatory message to his uncle after his re-election as governor and a public exchange with House of Representatives member James Faleke over tensions surrounding the governorship election.
The singer, in an X post, accused Mr Faleke and two other APC lawmakers of trying to “upturn the election result”.
He also claimed that Osun voters had rejected the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, while declaring that he would never support the ruling party.
Mr Faleke, who represents Ikeja Federal Constituency, had travelled to Osun to campaign for the APC candidate. He dismissed Davido’s allegation, insisting that he lacked the power to influence the election’s outcome.
The lawmaker argued that his presence in Osun was no different from Davido supporting his uncle’s party during the election.
Davido later rejected Mr Faleke’s explanation in another X post and mocked his political career. “Politics is not a career. Get a Job!” he wrote.
