Charly Boy and Peter Obi

‘I’m ready to die with Peter Obi; he’s the best president for Nigeria’ – Charly Boy

“If we give him a chance, he will do something, and if he doesn’t, God will punish him a hundredfold...”

In December 2025, PREMIUM TIMES reported that Mr Obi, who flew the Labour Party (LP) flag in the 2023 presidential election, defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The newspaper also reported in July 2025 that Mr Obi formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election during an X Space organised by his supporters.

During the engagement, Mr Obi said that he was willing to serve a single four-year term, provided he reached a consensus with stakeholders backing his ambition.

Charly Boy, who supported the 64-year-old politician during the 2023 presidential race, described Mr Obi as the best option to lead Nigeria.

PT WHATSAPP CHANNEL

He made the remarks during an interview on the “KaaTruths podcast”, published on YouTube on Tuesday.

He said: “I’ve fallen in love with his (Mr Obi’s) message. The things he says, the words that come out of his mouth, are wholesome. I’ve read up on him and his history as the former governor of Anambra State; it’s all very wholesome. I’ve had the opportunity to study him closely, and it’s almost like we’re talking about marriage and how I spent 47 years with one woman.

“I’m ready to die with Peter Obi, because in him I see light. In him, I see the vision he always talks about. If we give him a chance, he will do something, and if he doesn’t, God will punish him a hundredfold. I believe in him. Once my mind is made up about something, I stay there. When I look at the simplicity of the man, he is not like those trying to build empires.”

On a single-term promise

The singer also warned the former governor against repeatedly assuring his supporters that he would serve only a single term if elected president.

He argued that for Mr Obi to emerge as president, Nigerian youths must collectively decide that they have had enough of what he described as a “crime scene called Nigeria.”

According to him, the country’s current leaders all belong to the same political circle and are driven by identical ambitions.

“I don’t even know what kind of empire they are trying to build, or where they want to take all the money they are stealing. I don’t know. I don’t like to compare, but Peter Obi reminds me of someone. I’m his senior; he’s a small boy. He’s like a child my father trained. We share the same characteristics, so I’m in love with the guy. Whether or not he becomes salvation if he eventually gets there is in our hands.

“This one, he’s saying he wants to do one term, who is he talking to? It’s when we say we’ve had enough. All the people in leadership positions come from the same club. They are anyhow people, scumbags, Yahoo Yahoo people, thieves, rogues in agbada. I don’t have one atom of respect for them. They are very, very useless people”, said Charly Boy.

Ethnicity

Furthermore, he dismissed claims that his support for Mr Obi was driven by ethnic considerations, stressing that it had nothing to do with the fact that both men hail from the eastern part of the country.

Charly Boy cited his relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo as evidence of his long-standing stance.

He noted that he aligns himself with leaders who have the capacity to deliver and are genuinely committed to the welfare of the people.

He said, “If this were not a country like Nigeria, those people could never lead anything. Even my own son, my first son, could do a better job than what your president is doing. If not Peter Obi, then who? Is it your father? I don’t care if a goat is the leader, as long as that goat is doing the right thing for the people. Leadership is about the people, not about your *** self. Whether he is Igbo does not concern me.

“What concerns me are the people who want to move the country forward. People who think on tribal or religious lines, I don’t play like that. I don’t hang like that. I don’t think like that. Some people feel good saying it’s because he’s Igbo that he wants to get there. Today, Obasanjo and I are close. Is he Igbo? No, but he is a man. Even my great father, Justice Obuta, messes up.”

He described Mr Obi as a fearless fighter, adding that he deeply admires and holds him in high regard.

“If I mention Obasanjo’s name now, some people will object. Not everyone will agree with you. But what holds my friendship with Obasanjo together is that we believe in the same thing: the Nigeria of our dreams. I can see him making moves to actualise that. That’s one of the things I respect about him. As for the others, old age has caught up with them—people who wasted their lives.”

President Bola Tinubu; Mr Amupitan urged the president to intervene
President Bola Tinubu

When asked to share his views on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Charly Boy questioned his background.

He further claimed that citizens’ votes no longer counted under Mr Tinubu’s government and questioned whether the President was truly the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

“I don’t know who he is, where he comes from, or who gave birth to him. So what kind of honesty do you expect from me? Nobody knows who he is. I can see clearly because I am not a fool. This is not what the doctor prescribed, if it wasn’t hijacked. When our votes no longer count, and you want to tell us that somebody flew from Boys’ Quarters, entered through one window and then the main building, is that how it is supposed to be?

“Someone who comes from that neck of the woods, do you think he is interested in the people? No, he is not. So apart from curses, I don’t know what else to say. Other than cursing him, his lineage and his children, I don’t know what else to talk about, because he is not a human being.”
