The Lagos State Police Command on Monday disclosed the outcome of its investigation into allegations that Paul Adefarasin, founder of the Lagos-based House on the Rock Church, brandished an object resembling a firearm at content creator Yl_thecarguy.
In June, PREMIUM TIMES reported that the 62-year-old cleric came under fire on social media after a viral video captured him pointing the object at a content creator known for filming luxury cars and sharing the footage online.

The controversy prompted the police to summon the clergyman, interrogate him, grant him bail, and launch an investigation into the matter, which the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, said constitutes an offence under the law.
However, less than three months after the investigation began, the police, in a statement signed by spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi and posted on their X page on Wednesday, clarified that the object was not a firearm.

The statement partly read: “After a thorough investigation, including interrogation and a cautionary statement from Pastor Adefarasin, it was established that the object in question was a stun gun and not a lethal weapon or firearm.
“Consequent on our findings, the Lagos State Police Command has determined that there are no sufficient grounds to proceed. The case is hereby discontinued.”
Ms Adebisi reaffirmed the state police’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding public safety, while pledging transparency in all investigations.
Backstory
As of press time, Mr Adefarasin hasn’t commented on the outcome of the investigation.
Checks on his social media pages and those of his church revealed no information regarding the findings.

Earlier, this newspaper reported that the clergyman insisted the police wrongly identified a strobe-light device in his possession.
He stressed that the item allegedly recovered from him was neither a stun gun nor any form of anti-riot equipment.
Mr Adefarasin affirmed that he is a law-abiding citizen and pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation.
The architecture graduate from the University of Miami also clarified that he neither owned a firearm nor pointed one at anyone.
He added that he felt deeply hurt and shocked by the online controversy surrounding the video, describing the incident as hurtful and malicious.
