To build anticipation, Nigerian-American disc jockey Michael “DJ Tunez” Adeyinka posted a snippet of one of the tracks on his X page.
The song, titled “Jogodo”, showcases both artistes’ lyrical dexterity.
Asake delivers smooth Yoruba vocals that blend effortlessly with the beat, displaying the same mastery that has defined his previous hit records.
He sings: “Baby baby jowo o/ omo Olorun, fine bobo/ Jowo maa je o jabo o/ maa wo mo she n shako o/ Ibadi to pon yii sure gan/ mo kan fe je, mi o la bo o. Celebrities life isn’t easy, aye gbona…”
Wizkid follows with a line referencing the track’s title, emphasising that they are “trying to kill him with alcohol (ogogoro).”
Backstory
Although “Real Vol. 1” is their first joint EP, it is not the first time the singers have collaborated.
PREMIUM TIMES reported that Asake featured Wizkid on “MMS”, a single released on 5 October 2024 as part of Asake’s third studio album, “Lungu Boy.”
The track stood out among the 13 songs on the album, which features a star-studded line-up including Travis Scott, Stormzy, Central Cee and Ludmilla, blending Afrobeats with global sounds.
