Afrobeats sensation and Grammy Award-winning artiste Burna Boy has courted controversy in the industry by publicly stating that he writes all his songs himself.
The 34-year-old made the bold statement during a Thursday Twitch livestream with Plaqueboymax, stating authoritatively that he has never used ghostwriters and that his music is a deep reflection of his personal life experiences.

The singer said songwriting is a part of his artistry that he holds sacred; therefore, it can’t be outsourced or faked.
“I write everything myself. My music comes from my soul. It’s my story, my experience. Nobody can tell it better than me,” he said.

The music star also took a jab at what he described as the “growing trend of outsourced songwriting” among Nigerian artists, juxtaposing it with his observations in Los Angeles.
On 11 July 2025, Burna Boy’s latest album, “No Sign of Weakness,” dropped, and it has been making waves to date.
The album revealed a drift in Burna Boy’s style, moving from heavy collaboration tracks to more singles-focused releases. The album features guest appearances from Travis Scott, Mick Jagger, Stromae, and Shaboozey. It includes four singles: “Bundle by Bundle,” “Update,” “Sweet Love,” and “TaTaTa” (feat. Travis Scott).
“No Sign of Weakness” blends various music styles, including country, ’90s hip-hop, tech house, rock, and Nigerian electronic.

Similarly, Burna Boy has successfully concluded the Australian leg of his No Sign of Weakness World Tour, thrilling thousands of fans across four major cities Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth.
The tour, part of the global rollout for his critically acclaimed eighth studio album of the same name, showcased Burna Boy’s unmatched live energy and stage mastery.
Kicking off in Auckland, New Zealand, on 11 October, the singer went on to deliver sold-out performances at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl (October 16), Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena (October 18), Brisbane Entertainment Centre (October 20), before wrapping up with a grand finale at Perth’s RAC Arena on October 24.
The tour’s 360-degree centre stage setup created an immersive experience, drawing fans closer to the music and transforming each venue into a sea of movement and colour.
Reflecting on the experience, Burna Boy said: “Australia showed me nothing but love; every crowd, every night had its own fire. I’ll carry that energy into the next cities.”
Released in July, No Sign of Weakness has earned widespread praise for its message of resilience and self-belief, while expanding the global reach of Afrobeats. The album features collaborations with international stars including Travis Scott, Mick Jagger, Stromae, and Shaboozey, further reinforcing Burna Boy’s status as a boundary-pushing artist.
The No Sign of Weakness World Tour is set to continue into 2026, with newly announced European dates in Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Zurich, and Brussels extending his global footprint and underscoring his position as one of Africa’s most electrifying exports.
