Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State on Wednesday signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, authorising a total expenditure package that covers both the State Government and the 27 Local Government Councils.
During the signing ceremony at the Government House, Governor Namadi disclosed that the Jigawa State Government’s budget stands at ₦901.84 billion, while the consolidated budget for the 27 Local Government Councils is ₦288.85 billion.

Emphasising the inclusive nature of the fiscal document, the Governor described it as a reflection of the people’s will.
“This budget is the outcome of our extensive citizen engagement programme and truly reflects the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Jigawa State.

“It is, therefore, a citizens’ budget—exactly what our people asked for, and exactly what is contained in this document”, Mr Namadi stated
The Governor extended his gratitude to the State House of Assembly for their collaboration during citizen engagement sessions, bilateral meetings, and committee stages, noting that their support was critical to the smooth passage of the bill.
Governor Namadi also commended the State Executive Council for their dedication to the engagement process.
“I commend the members of the Council for their tireless efforts in gathering inputs from our citizens, often working late into the night. This level of commitment is truly commendable,” he said.
Furthermore, he praised the Jigawa State Civil Service for its professionalism in compiling the budget, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving civil servants’ welfare.
The Governor’s assent followed the passage of the bill by the State House of Assembly.
The legislative approval came after the House adopted a report from the Standing Committee on Appropriation, presented during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Haruna Aliyu.
Mr Aliyu noted that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) had undergone rigorous budget defense sessions. He expressed satisfaction with the allocations earmarked for infrastructure and social amenities for the 2026 fiscal year.
In addition to the state-level budget, the Assembly approved ₦288.848 billion for the 27 Local Government Councils.
Mr Aliyu urged the Ministry for Local Government to ensure that Council Chairmen strictly adhere to the budget implementation guidelines to improve the well-being of the rural populace.
