The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the House of Representatives has declared its support for all the recent decisions taken by the party’s organs and committees, including those arising from the recent Zamfara and Lagos meetings, to stabilise the party.
The resolution was taken at an emergency meeting of the caucus in Abuja on Monday.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Caucus Leader, Fred Agbedi (Bayelsa), said lawmakers of the 10th House are fully aligned with moves by the PDP leadership to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
“As representatives, we ensure that we support the position of the party, to create more stability, peace, and strengthen this party to ensure that we take victory in the presidential and other elections by 2027,” Mr Agbedi said.

He dismissed claims of unresolved internal disputes, stressing that the caucus had unanimously adopted the party’s decisions and was committed to working in synergy with the leadership.
“There are no lingering crises. We have no issue with lingering crises. What we have told you is that the caucus adopts all the decisions of the committees and organs of the party, and we are ready to work with them,” he added.
Mr Agbedi further noted that the lawmakers are determined to contribute to ongoing reconciliation efforts and to ensure the party emerges stronger.
The PDP has about 100 members in the 360-member lower chamber.
PDP’s Struggles and Road to 2027
The PDP has been enmeshed in internal wrangling, factional disputes, and declining electoral fortunes in the recent past. Divisions among governors, conflicting interests at the national leadership level, and a loss of dominance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have raised concerns about its ability to mount a strong challenge to the ruling party in 2027.
Earlier in June, former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, warned that unless drastic measures are taken to resolve the internal crises, the PDP risks becoming a political “carcass.”

Party organs have therefore intensified efforts to forge unity and restore internal cohesion, with Monday’s caucus resolution seen as a step towards consolidating that drive.
The fallout from the 2023 elections, where the PDP failed to reclaim the presidency and lost ground in several key states, deepened cracks within the party.
Disagreements over zoning arrangements and the role of the G-5 governors further weakened its national structure, leaving it vulnerable to defections and rival alliances.
However, the PDP, which was in power at the federal level between 1999 and 2015, has been making efforts to resolve the crises plaguing it. Apart from the ongoing meeting of its national executive committee, the party has also fixed its elective national convention for November in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
