The Katsina State Government will on Tuesday host the 2025 World Hausa Day celebration in the ancient city of Daura, putting the state on the global stage for one of Africa’s most significant cultural events. The celebration, which attracts participants from 25 countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas, will showcase Daura as the cradle of the Hausa people and language to a global audience of millions.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Executive Director/CEO of the Katsina State History and Culture Bureau, Kabir Ali Masanawa, said the celebration would reaffirm the legacy of the Hausa people whose traditions have shaped centuries of African history.

“World Hausa Day is not just a celebration—it’s a reaffirmation of the legacy of a people whose language, traditions, and values have shaped centuries of African history. Daura is where the Hausa story began, and this year, the world will witness that story in its most authentic form,” Mr Masanawa stated.
The Culture Bureau boss and organising bureau, noted that Hausa is currently the 11th most spoken language globally and is projected to become the fifth most spoken language by 2050, making it a linguistic force with growing international influence.

The day-long programme will feature a grand Durbar procession showcasing traditional Hausa horsemanship and regalia, cultural exhibitions on history, attire, crafts, and cuisine, as well as symposiums by leading scholars on the modern relevance of the Hausa language.
The event which fulfills Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s vision to promote cultural values also enjoyed partnership with Ranar Hausa ta Duniya, under its founder, AbdulBaki Jari. Mr Jari, a Hausa cultural advocate, described the movement as being about “pride, connection, and continuity,” adding, “From Katsina to Kano, from London to Washington, the Hausa people are one family, and our language is our bridge to the future.”
The 2025 edition promises unprecedented global visibility, wit celebrations spanning from Niamey to Kano, Abuja to Accra, London to Riyadh, and Chicago to Dubai. Cultural organisations, embassies, universities, and community associations worldwide will host simultaneous events, while international media channels are expected to provide live coverage from Daura to audiences across continents.
World Hausa Day was founded to promote and preserve the Hausa language and culture while fostering unity among Hausa-speaking communities worldwide and showcasing the economic and creative potential of Hausa heritage in today’s interconnected world.
