Nigerian champions Edo Queens will face ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire in their second Group B fixture of the 2026 WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers after making a sensational start to their campaign with a 7-0 demolition of AS Garde Nationale of Niger.
The Edo State champions produced a dominant display in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on Monday, opening their campaign in emphatic fashion to immediately establish themselves as serious contenders for the tournament’s sole CAF Women’s Champions League qualification ticket.

Chioma Moses led the rout with a hat-trick, while Atume Doosuur scored twice. Aminat Folorunsho and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi were also on target as Edo Queens turned the contest into a one-sided affair.
Moses opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute before converting from the penalty spot three minutes into first-half stoppage time to give Edo Queens a 2-0 lead at the interval.

The Nigerian champions showed no signs of slowing down after the restart, with Doosuur making it 3-0 in the 47th minute before completing her brace nine minutes later.
Folorunsho added a fifth in the 62nd minute, while Moses completed her hat-trick in the 76th minute. Adegbuyi then rounded off the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time.
Moses was rewarded for her outstanding performance by being named Woman of the Match.

The victory puts Edo Queens at the summit of Group B on goal difference, with Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies also sitting on three points after their 1-0 victory over ASEC Mimosas.
ASEC Mimosas next for Edo Queens
Edo Queens will now turn their attention to ASEC Mimosas when the two sides meet on Thursday, 27 August, at 3 pm.
The Ivorian champions will present a significantly tougher challenge for Edo Queens, having represented Côte d’Ivoire at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League, where they reached the continental final. They would also be hoping to bounce back from their opening day defeat against the Ghanians, Ampem Darkoa.
The Group B encounter could prove crucial to Edo Queens’ hopes of progressing to the semi-finals, with only one ticket available to the WAFU-B representative for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
Ampem Darkoa will face AS Garde Nationale in the other Group B fixture on Thursday at 6 pm.
The group stage will conclude on Sunday, 30 August, when Edo Queens face Ampem Darkoa at 4 pm, while Garde Nationale take on ASEC Mimosas at the same time.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on 2 September, with the final and third-place match scheduled for 5 September.
Edo Queens are aiming to repeat their 2024 success, when they won the WAFU-B qualifiers on their debut before finishing fourth at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
After their spectacular 7-0 opening victory, the Nigerian champions now have ASEC Mimosas standing between them and another important step towards a return to Africa’s biggest women’s club competition.
