“I will not disappoint you,” Adeleke tells Osun residents

The re-elected Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has promised residents that he will not disappoint them after securing a second term in office, pledging to build on his administration’s achievements and address its shortcomings.

Mr Adeleke made the commitment on Sunday during a press conference in Osogbo, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him the winner of the 15 August governorship election.

“As you have trusted me again for the second term in office, I will not disappoint you,” he said.

He added: “To serve you better, I will reinforce my strong points and correct my errors under my renewed five-point agenda.”

Mr Adeleke said the election followed months of what he described as intense pressure on residents of the state, adding that the outcome had settled the issues before them.

“In the last few months, Osun people have been under very intense pressure. Today, the issues are settled by the grace of God and people.”

He dedicated his victory to the people of Osun State, praising their resilience and commitment to democracy.

“I, therefore, dedicate this victory to the good people of Osun State. I deeply appreciate your resilience, your strong will, and your unwavering commitment to democracy,” the governor said.

Mr Adeleke also thanked Nigerians and others who supported what he described as the struggle for democracy.

“To all lovers of democracy, I thank you for supporting our struggle from home and abroad. The support is overwhelming. My faith in democracy is deepened,” he said.

He also acknowledged the media for its coverage of the election.

“Most importantly, I thank the media for standing by me, by us. The constant coverage in support of democracy emboldened us. We are grateful,” he added.

‘I am the governor of all Osun people’

With the election now concluded, Mr Adeleke said his administration would focus on expanding development and improving governance across the state.

“Osun State is on the march again. We shall expand development and widen the net of good governance,” he said.

He also extended an olive branch to his opponents, saying he would govern all residents irrespective of how they voted.

“In this race, there is no victor, no vanquished. I extend my olive branch to my co-contestants. I am the governor of all Osun State people,” he said.

Mr Adeleke said his administration’s long-term ambition was to change the state’s economic outlook by moving it beyond its traditional reliance on the civil service.

“My vision: taking Osun from a civil service state to an industrial state and an investment destination,” he said.

Mr Adeleke first became governor in 2022 after defeating the then-incumbent, Gboyega Oyetola, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He later joined the Accord Party and contested the 2026 election under its banner.

His re-election means he will now have another four years to pursue the programmes he says will strengthen the state’s economy and widen development.

At the centre of his post-election message is a pledge to retain what worked during his first term while confronting areas where his administration fell short.

Governor Adeleke’s declaration that he would “reinforce” his strong points and “correct” his errors, therefore, sets out the immediate challenge of his second term: turning the renewed mandate from voters into measurable improvements in governance and development across Osun State.
