The management of Westland University, Iwo, Osun State, has appointed the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, as the chancellor of the institution.
The appointment was announced in a letter signed by the university’s registrar, Olaosebikan Olalekan, and approved by the management led by Esther Adepoju.

According to the letter made available to PREMIUM TIMES, Oba Akanbi’s appointment, which will run for a five-year term, was in recognition of his contributions to the promotion of education and youth development.
“It is with great honour and respect that I write on behalf of the Consult of Westland University, Iwo, being led by Dr. (Mrs.) Esther Adepoju, to inform Your Imperial Majesty of your nomination and appointment as the Chancellor of Westland University, Iwo, Osun State for a term of five (5) years.

“Your Imperial Majesty’s leadership, wisdom, and commitment to quality education for our teeming youth make you an ideal candidate for this position. We believe that your Royal guidance will significantly contribute to our university’s growth and development,” the letter read.
The king ascended the throne as the Oluwo of Iwoland in 2016 after the demise of Oba Ashiru Tadese in 2012.
The Oluwo prides himself on as a king with modern approach to traditional leadership and vision to reshape the role of traditional rulers in contemporary society.

He often speaks against idol worshipping, while emphasising his interest in education, and community development.
The institution said the traditional ruler is expected to provide strategic direction, preside over convocation ceremonies, and represent the university in official functions.
“As Chancellor, we expect your Imperial Majesty to provide visionary leadership, guide our academic and administrative endeavors, and represent the university with dignity and distinction.
“Your Majesty will also provide strategic direction and oversight to the university as well as preside over convocation ceremonies and other assemblies. As our Chancellor, you will be expected sir, to advocate for the university’s interests and foster partnerships and collaborations.

“We look forward to working closely with your Imperial Majesty as we congratulate you on this nomination and appointment,” the letter read.
