A woman has died while two other persons are receiving treatment following a road crash along IET New Horizons Road in the Old Airport Quarters area of Minna, Niger State.
The crash occurred when a vehicle reportedly driven by the Registrar of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Danladi Mallam, suffered a tyre burst while in motion.

According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle lost control and veered off, hitting a woman standing beside a commercial motorcyclist.
The woman was reportedly negotiating the fare for a trip with the motorcyclist when the vehicle crashed into them.

The registrar’s brother was also in the vehicle when the incident occurred.
Residents and other eyewitnesses at the scene assisted in evacuating the victims to a nearby Primary Health Care Centre in Old Airport Quarters for emergency treatment.
The woman was later confirmed dead at the health facility, while two other victims are still receiving treatment.

The university announced Mallam’s appointment as its seventh substantive registrar in January 2025, following approval by its Governing Council.
The latest crash comes amid recurring fatal road accidents in Niger State.
In June, five people were confirmed dead and eight others critically injured in a crash involving a passenger trailer and a tanker in Agaie.
The National Emergency Management Agency said the crash occurred after a trailer attempting to avoid a faulty tanker stationed on the road lost control.
Earlier, in February 2025, 12 people were killed in a collision between a passenger bus and a trailer at Nami village along the Lapai-Agaie road.

The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the fatalities and said the cause of the crash was being investigated.
Also in January 2025, eight farmers were killed in a collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a tanker trailer on the Batati-Lanle road in Lavun Local Government Area. The crash reportedly occurred when the car attempted to overtake another vehicle.
These incidents have continued to raise concerns over speeding, dangerous overtaking, vehicle roadworthiness and other factors contributing to fatal crashes on Niger State roads.
Authorities are expected to investigate the latest incident and establish the circumstances that led to the death of the woman and the injuries sustained by the other victims.
