As Zamfara State gradually approaches the 2027 political season, the conversation around leadership, continuity, development, and the future direction of the state will undoubtedly become more intense. At the centre of that conversation is Governor Dauda Lawal, whose political journey and record in office present him with a distinctive proposition to the people of Zamfara.

Governor Dauda Lawal is not approaching 2027 merely as a politician seeking another opportunity. He is approaching it as an incumbent who can place his record, experience, vision, and ongoing projects before the people and ask them to judge his administration by what it has achieved and what it intends to accomplish.

FROM PROMISES TO PERFORMANCE

One of the strongest selling points for any incumbent is the opportunity to demonstrate what has actually been accomplished. For Governor Lawal, the 2027 conversation can therefore be built around a simple question: What has changed in Zamfara, and what more can be achieved with continuity?

Leadership is ultimately about impact. Roads, education, healthcare, security, agriculture, infrastructure, institutional reforms, human capital development and economic opportunities are not merely political talking points; they are the things that directly affect the lives of ordinary citizens.

The governor’s strongest argument should therefore be his record of service—allowing the people to compare where Zamfara was, where it is today, and where it can be tomorrow.

CONTINUITY AS A DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

Zamfara does not need to repeatedly start from zero. Sustainable development requires continuity, consistency and sufficient time for well-conceived policies to mature.

A second term provides the opportunity to consolidate ongoing reforms, complete projects already initiated, strengthen institutions and pursue new programmes based on lessons learned during the first term. The message is simple:

If the foundation has been laid, the next responsibility is to build higher—not to demolish and start again.

EXPERIENCE THAT COMES FROM GOVERNING

There is a significant difference between campaigning for government and actually governing. The first term has exposed Governor Lawal to the realities of governance—the complexity of public administration, the expectations of citizens, the challenges facing local governments, the demands of security, the management of scarce resources and the importance of making difficult decisions.

That experience can become a powerful advantage going into 2027. He would not be asking Zamfarans to entrust the state to an untested hand. He would be asking them to give him the opportunity to use the experience gained from his first term to deliver even more effectively.

A VISION BEYOND 2027

The most compelling political leaders are those who do not merely campaign around the next election but articulate a vision beyond it.

Zamfara needs a long-term development agenda that addresses the fundamental challenges confronting the state and creates opportunities for its young population.

The 2027 election should therefore be presented not simply as a contest for political office, but as a choice about the direction of Zamfara’s future.

A Zamfara where young people can build careers.

A Zamfara where farmers can produce and prosper.

A Zamfara where businesses can grow.

A Zamfara where children have access to quality education.

A Zamfara where healthcare is accessible.

A Zamfara where salaries, pensions, and gratuities are paid as and when due.

A Zamfara where institutions are stronger and public resources are used responsibly.

And, above all, a Zamfara where peace and security create the foundation for development.

THE YOUTH FACTOR

Perhaps one of the greatest opportunities before Governor Lawal in 2027 is the young population of Zamfara. Young people should not be treated merely as political supporters, campaign crowds or electoral numbers. They should be regarded as partners in governance and builders of the future.

The administration’s engagement with young people must therefore go beyond political mobilisation. It should focus on education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, employment, technology, agriculture, leadership development and meaningful participation in governance.

A political movement that gives young people a stake in the future will naturally inspire a stronger sense of ownership.

LEADERSHIP WITH HUMILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

The road to 2027 will not be without criticism, opposition or difficult conversations. That is the nature of democracy. The strongest response to criticism, however, is not bitterness—it is performance.

The most convincing campaign is not necessarily the loudest campaign. It is the one that can point to tangible achievements, acknowledge areas that still require improvement and present a credible plan for the future.

Governor Dauda Lawal’s most compelling selling point, therefore, should be service backed by evidence, vision backed by experience, and ambition backed by responsibility.

THE 2027 CHOICE

Ultimately, elections belong to the people.

The people of Zamfara will decide who they believe can best lead the state into its next chapter. But as the political conversation begins to take shape, Governor Dauda Lawal enters the contest with something every incumbent would want to have:

a record to defend, experience to draw from, projects to consolidate, lessons learned, and a vision that can be presented to the people for their judgment.

The real question going into 2027 should therefore not only be “Who wants to govern Zamfara?” It should be: “Who has demonstrated the capacity, character, experience and vision to take Zamfara to the next level?”

For Governor Dauda Lawal and his supporters, that is the opportunity before them. The 2027 journey should be about more than winning an election. It should be about presenting a compelling case for continuity, consolidation and purposeful leadership—and allowing the people of Zamfara toĥ make their choice.

Zamfara’s future is bigger than any individual. Leadership is a trust. And the ultimate measure of that trust is what we build, what we change, and what we leave behind for generations yet unborn.

Fear and Hope
