The Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF) has commended stakeholders in Nigeria’s mining and capital markets for their active participation in the recent NASD-SMDF webinar on unlocking Nigeria’s solid minerals potential through the capital market.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Fatima Umaru Shinkafi, the Executive Assistant, Omotayo Omitokun, expressed appreciation to speakers, participants, and partners whose contributions enriched the conversation on sustainable financing for the solid minerals sector.
Ms Omitokun acknowledged the insights shared by Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom, Director-General of the Mining Cadastre Office, on licensing processes; Jon O’Callaghan, a mining expert, on the mining asset development cycle and investment readiness; and Paul Lalovich, Director at Agile Dynamics, on innovative financing models such as asset tokenisation.
“These perspectives are crucial for deepening capital market participation in Nigeria’s mining sector and unlocking the true value of our mineral resources,” she said.

She also praised the support of the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, represented by Amira Adamu Waziri, as well as the leadership of Mr Eguarekhide Longe, MD of NASD Plc, whose team co-hosted the event.
According to Ms Omitokun, the successful coordination of the session was made possible through the contributions of SMDF staff and the moderation of Oludare Fajimolu.
Highlighting SMDF’s role, she noted that Mrs Shinkafi’s leadership has been pivotal in pushing reforms and forging strategic partnerships, such as with the Africa Finance Corporation, to attract private investment into Nigeria’s mining sector.
“Her vision has positioned SMDF as a key driver of reforms and private sector participation in building a more sustainable, transparent, and profitable mining industry,” Ms Omitokun added.
The remarks underscored SMDF’s commitment to collaboration as a pathway to unlocking Nigeria’s mineral wealth and advancing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
