The Third Level of Advancement in Life: Advancing Against Generational Limitations
In the New Testament, can the children face the limitations of their parents? From experience, this has sadly been proven to be true. How can a genuinely born-again son and daughter of God experience limitations and stagnancy? The New Testament teaches that every believer is at war, we wrestle against principality and power (Ephesians 6:12). In the time of war, does your status in Christ immune you to attacks? No. If we are fighting against unseen powers, we are potentially exposed to their weapons, tricks, and various ammunitions including generational limitations, manipulations, poverty, weariness, discouragement, lack, hatred, sickness, losses and even in some cases death.
It is now our duty to leverage our weapons of warfare to secure our territory. If Christ has finished everything on the cross, why does the scripture teach us to fight the devil with our weapons of war? (2 Corinthians 10:4). What Christ finished on the cross was the package of redemption and salvation, together with the rest of the package which we must place a demand of faith on as we receive salvation also by faith. Here are some examples of generational limitations
- Repeated cycle of poverty
- Repeated cycle of wasted efforts, always working for others with no tangible benefits
- Repeated cycle of sicknesses
- Repeated cycle of losses, losing things
- Repeated cycle of marital breakdown
- Repeated cycle of untimely death
- Repeated cycle of stagnancy, never moving beyond certain levels in life which are usually average
But for today, repeated cycle of stagnancy is the focus. In Matthew 8:28, we see the story of two demon possessed people taking over a place, no one could pass that place. They placed a siege over a generation. No passage at all. What are some possible causes of generational limitations?

- Parents got involved with evil covenants on behalf of their children
- Parents committed specific atrocities, including the shedding blood
- Parents got involved with cheating weak people of their assets and resources
- Parents placed curses of limitations on their children when provoked
- Parents placed limitations on other people’s children
- Parents lived in a land that was under the control of demonic limitations
To disconnect yourself from every generational limitations, the following must be in place
- Salvation. You must be saved to secure your victory from the hold of Satan
- Prayers. You must pray to break away from every limitation
- Some cases require you to restitute your ways. Maybe you need to repay a debt you owe or that your parents owed some people.
- Some cases might require undergoing deliverance sessions with trusted and genuinely anointed servants of God.
- Some cases require praying prayers of inquiry from God on the specific prophetic steps to take.
The Fourth Level of Advancement in Life: Advancing the Kingdom
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33)
We are not just called to advance God’s kingdom, but to make it our number one priority even above our own personal advancement. The kingdom of God is not just a geographic location, heaven. The kingdom of God is everywhere and everything that God owns and represents including souls, Heaven and Earth, the church and the body of Christ, the interests of God’s kingdom, the culture of the kingdom, the values of the Kingdom, the priorities, and agenda of the kingdom of God. Is your life promoting your own kingdom or God’s kingdom? There is a way we can live on earth that will not just neglect God’s kingdom, but will actually negatively affect God’s kingdom. Jesus spoke extensively about His kingdom.
“Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here” (John 18:36)
“nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21)
“The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it” (Luke 16:16)
You can’t advance what you don’t know. Let’s look at each member of God’s kingdom and how we are expected to advance them.
- Souls: every soul belongs to God. Servants, employees, weak and poor, sinners, church members. To advance God’s kingdom in the areas of souls is to win them over to Christ using every method scripturally possible. The Bible says in Proverbs 11:30, “he that wins souls is wise.”
- The church global and the church local: Avoiding actions and values that bring shame to the church. Supporting the interests and agenda of genuine churches with your resources; serving God in a local church to promote godly projects and programs (Hebrews 10:25: do not forsake the assembly of other believers)
- Heaven: living your life from the lenses of Heaven. Is what I am doing capable of getting me to heaven? Being eternity conscious and living and acting in a manner that promotes the interests of heaven
- Earth: the Bible says, “the earth is the Lord’s (Psalm 24:1). You must live your life in a manner that shines God’s light to your space and world. Basically, making positive impact through your work and career wherever you are.
- Domineering values of God as found in scripture. These include love, humility, faithfulness, righteousness etc. Your commitment is not to who you like but to what is right, Christ of the body is higher than the body of Christ. Prioritizing God’s standards and values at all levels of your life be it career, ministry, business, relationships, parenting, marriage, and politics.
It is by advancing in these areas that the kingdom of God is advancing. When we advance His kingdom, we also advance in our reward, capacities, blessings, and the assignments God has placed in our lives.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33)
