The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a one-off N4,000 fee for the verification of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The two examination and admissions bodies said the new arrangement is designed to prevent candidates from paying multiple verification fees to different institutions during the admission process.

Under the arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results through a JAMB-provided verification platform. The verified outcome will then be made available to the tertiary institution where the candidate seeks admission.
The development was announced in a joint statement signed by both examination bodies and shared with PREMIUM TIMES.

“This collaboration underscores the commitment of both JAMB and WAEC to putting the interests of candidates first, reducing unnecessary costs and simplifying the admission process while maintaining the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records,” the statement said.
According to the new arrangement, candidates can initiate the verification process from home or any location with internet access.
The agencies encouraged prospective students to take advantage of the arrangement by completing the verification once, with the assurance that the verified result would subsequently be made available to all other institutions concerned.

One verification for multiple institutions
The agencies said candidates will be required to verify their WASSCE results once through JAMB, after which the verification outcome can be used by the relevant institution for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes.
“Candidates are to pay N4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’ Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions,” the statement said.
The tertiary institutions that the applicants are seeking admission to are not permitted to demand another verification payment from candidates whose results have already been verified through the JAMB platform, the statement clarified.
“Tertiary institutions are to utilise the verified results shared by JAMB for screening, processing candidate admission and other administrative purposes…Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” the statement said.

O’level verification for admissions
O’Level results are a key requirement in Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process. Candidates seeking admission typically use results from examinations such as WAEC’s WASSCE, the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examinations to demonstrate that they possess the required secondary-school qualifications.
The prerequisites usually include at least five credits in relevant subjects in the candidate’s discipline, including English and Mathematics.
JAMB coordinates admissions into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education and other tertiary institutions through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
