Seven people were killed and two others injured after three vehicles collided in the early hours of Monday around Kara on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The crash, which occurred at about 12:03 a.m., involved a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said.

According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC, all nine people involved in the crash were male. Seven died at the scene, while two others sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
The FRSC said its Ibafo Outpost received information about the crash shortly after it occurred and arrived at the scene about five minutes later.

The corps classified the incident as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, identifying speed violation as the probable cause, although it said further investigation was ongoing.
The deceased victims were evacuated by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment.
The damaged vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo for further action.

The latest crash adds to a series of road accidents recorded around the Kara/Ibafo section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in recent weeks, raising renewed concerns about the safety of one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors.
On July 24, a multiple crash at Kara Bridge involving five articulated trucks and a Toyota Sienna killed one person and injured another, according to the Lagos State Sector Command of the FRSC. The agency attributed the first crash to speed violation and loss of control.
The incident caused severe gridlock, with traffic stretching towards Berger, Otedola Bridge and adjoining roads as emergency agencies worked to recover the damaged vehicles.
Just days later, on July 27, another multi-vehicle collision along the expressway caused hours of traffic disruption, although no deaths or injuries were confirmed in that incident.
On August 17, a truck also killed a pedestrian in a separate accident around Kara Bridge. The truck was reportedly involved in a brake failure before crushing the pedestrian, according to a report quoting the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).
The frequency of crashes has kept the Kara axis in focus, particularly because of the heavy presence of articulated vehicles and the volume of traffic using the Lagos-Ibadan corridor.
The FRSC’s latest warning again centred on speeding and safe driving practices, particularly for drivers of articulated vehicles.
Reacting to the latest crash, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant while driving.
“Motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, should avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant at all times,” Mr Ogunjobi said.
He also urged motorists to exercise greater caution when driving at night, noting that reduced visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of crashes.
The latest incident comes as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway continues to carry heavy traffic between Lagos and several parts of southwestern Nigeria, making safety on the corridor a recurring concern for road users.
