A dispatch rider has died in a multiple-vehicle accident involving two trucks at Ijesha, inward Mile 2, in Lagos State.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, on Saturday.

Mr Oke-Osanyintolu stated that LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team responded to the scene after receiving a distress call.
According to him, the accident involved a FAW truck with registration number T-30364LA, an Iveco truck with registration number KSF 958 XV and the dispatch rider.

He noted that preliminary investigations indicated that reckless driving and wrongful use of the road by the truck drivers led to the crash.
Mr Oke-Osanyintolu said the FAW truck collided with the Iveco truck while both drivers were allegedly struggling for the right of way.
“The Iveco truck subsequently struck the dispatch rider from behind, resulting in his death,” he stated.
He said officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Okota Division, evacuated the deceased’s remains to a morgue for identification and other necessary procedures.
The two trucks were also moved to a designated lay-by off the main carriageway to restore normal traffic flow, he said.
The permanent secretary explained that the operation was carried out jointly by LASEMA and the police and was successfully concluded.
He added that the road had been declared safe for motorists and other road users.
Mr Oke-Osanyintolu commiserated with the family of the deceased and urged commercial drivers to avoid reckless driving, wrongful overtaking and lane disputes.
He stressed the need for strict compliance with traffic regulations to prevent avoidable deaths on Lagos roads.
He also reaffirmed LASEMA’s commitment to rapid emergency response and collaboration with other agencies to protect lives and property across the state.

The death comes amid growing concerns over the safety of dispatch riders on Lagos roads.
In May, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) held a road-safety engagement with courier operators and dispatch riders following what it described as increasing cases of traffic violations, reckless riding and fatal crashes involving riders.
LASTMA data showed that dispatch-related road incidents rose from 187 in 2024 to 192 in 2025, with 42 cases recorded in the first quarter of 2026.
The agency has repeatedly urged dispatch riders and other road users to obey traffic regulations and adopt safer driving practices.
