The State Security Service (SSS) said it has arrested a man for “impersonating” a deceased personnel member whom he claimed was his brother.
The suspect, Moferewa Maiye, was arrested on Wednesday while dressed in an SSS tactical uniform and armed with a “fake pistol,” the media unit of the service said in a statement.

The SSS said Mr Maiye claimed that his brother, Monday Maiye, was an SSS official who died years ago. The suspect confessed that the SSS kits in his possession were his late brother’s, the service added.
Mr Maiye who hails from Agbajojun village in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, was trailed and arrested by the secret police operatives who raided his hideout around the NITEL Junction, along Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II..

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was dressed in an SSS tactical uniform and armed with a fake pistol, the agency said, adding that he was using the uniform and the toy weapon “to intimidate commuters and motorists, extorting money from them.”
“The suspect is currently being interrogated …,” the SSS said.
“Investigators are also trying to establish how long the suspect has been involved in similar acts of impersonation and extortion,” it added.
