A Nigerian national, Ayodeji Ajayi, is set to be deported from the United States after immigration authorities accused him of violating the terms of his student visa and committing multiple offences while residing in the country.
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X account, saying Mr Ajayi entered the United States on a student visa in 2007 but remained in the country after leaving school.

According to the agency, Mr Ajayi was convicted of domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction during his stay in the country.
ICE also linked him to charges including kidnapping, rape and family neglect, but did not provide details of the cases or indicate when and where the offences occurred.

The agency said Mr Ajayi would be deported as part of the Donald Trump administration’s efforts to remove undocumented migrants and foreign nationals convicted of crimes.
“Thanks to President Trump’s commitment to getting criminal illegal aliens out of this country, Ajayi will be leaving the United States shortly,” ICE said in the post.
Deportation efforts
Mr Ajayi’s case comes as the Trump administration continues to pursue a tougher immigration policy following the president’s return to office.
Immigration enforcement has remained a key pillar of Mr Trump’s agenda, with US authorities increasing arrests, detentions and deportation proceedings involving undocumented migrants across the country.
In 2025, PREMIUM TIMES reported that 3,690 Nigerians were among more than 1.4 million foreign nationals listed by US authorities as having final deportation orders.
PREMIUM TIMES also reported that the United States planned to deport an initial batch of 85 Nigerians, with officials indicating that some of those affected had criminal convictions while others had violated immigration regulations.

Mr Ajayi is not the first Nigerian to face deportation over criminal convictions.
In December, US immigration authorities announced plans to deport another Nigerian, Ibrahim Ijaoba, over multiple criminal convictions, including armed robbery and drug sales.
ICE said Mr Ijaoba was being held in custody pending his removal from the country.

Beyond the information contained in its social media post, ICE has not released further details about Mr Ajayi’s immigration proceedings or the timeline for his removal.
