Fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) Friday night ambushed a Nigerian military convoy in Borno State, killing two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)
Although HumAngle, which first reported the attack, initially reported that the commanding officer of the troops, a brigadier general, was kidnapped, it later clarified that he was not.
The Nigerian Army also later confirmed the attack and the casualties. The army said its troops eventually saw off and defeated the terrorists and that the brigade commander was not kidnapped.
According to the army statement, the troops “courageously fought through the insurgents ambush with superior fire power,” forcing the attackers to withdraw in disarray.

The army added that the terrorists abandoned their mission as a result of the troops’ response.
While confirming the loss of two soldiers and two CJTF members “who paid the supreme price,” the army commiserated with the families and associates of the deceased and praised their “heroic sacrifice to the nation.”
