The Police Command in Lagos State has restored peace and normalcy to Tejuosho Market Phase II, Surulere, after hoodlums and miscreants unleashed violence under the guise of protesting power outage.
The deputy spokesperson for the command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, a deputy suprintendent of police, confirmed this in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

He said that the incident occurred on Thursday at about 2:30 p.m., when the command received a distress call that hoodlums had launched attacks on traders, damaging property, and targeting security personnel at the market.
“The attackers vandalised parts of a commercial bank and assaulted policemen on guard.

“However, Mobile Police Force personnel repelled the assault, preventing an invasion of both the bank and the Market Police Post.
“On receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Olohundare Jimoh, deployed additional operatives, including conventional officers and tactical squads, to the scene.
“The joint team dispersed the attackers and apprehended 18 suspects involved in the mayhem.
“The suspects are currently in custody and under investigation, with police vowing to track down others, who participated in the unrest,” he said.
According to the police, normalcy has been restored to allow traders and customers to resume business activities.
“Normalcy has been fully restored and the situation is under control; people are enjoined to go about their lawful businesses peacefully without fear of apprehension,” he said.
Mr Oluseyi said that the commissioner of police warned against attacks on police and urged residents to respect officers maintaining safety.
“Jimoh reiterates that violent attacks on police personnel and destruction of property will not be tolerated.

“The commissioner advises residents to respect law enforcement officers as they carry out their duties of safeguarding lives and property,” he said.
