The Lagos State local government election has gotten off to a slow start on Saturday, as election officials struggle to arrive on time.
Officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arrived in the Ijegun area around 9:30 am, more than an hour after the official start time of 8 a.m.

As of 10 a.m., voting, which is scheduled to end at 3 p.m., has not begun. Our correspondent observed that two out of five polling units on the premises of the Ijegun Primary School have yet to receive voting materials.
A voter, Dare Ajayi, expressed his disappointment over the delay in the arrival of voting materials. Having arrived at his polling unit as early as 7 a.m., he lamented that the materials were still nowhere to be found.

This reporter observed that as of 11:25 a.m., voting materials for polling unit 59, inside Ijegun Local Government Primary School, have not been distributed.

Voters, mostly elderly citizens, patiently waited for LASIEC officials, but Mr Ajayi said he would leave if the officials did not arrive soon.
Meanwhile, polling units that have begun accreditation and voting experienced low turnout, as voters trickled in to cast their ballots.
According to the LASIEC, the elections will cover all 57 chairmanship and vice-chairmanship positions, as well as 376 councillors seats.
Voting will take place in 13,325 polling units across the state. Lagos currently has 7,060,195 registered voters, out of which 6,214,970 have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). However, 845,225 PVCs remain uncollected, potentially impacting voter turnout.
