A 35-year-old man, Tobi Sunday, was arraigned at the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly obstructing a police officer in the performance of his lawful duty.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of assault.
The police prosecutor, Yomi Osuolale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on 30 March at about 9.00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted and obstructed a police inspector, Andah Mohammed, while discharging his lawful duty.

Mr Osuolale, an assistant superintendent of police, said the offence contravened Sections 187(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Blessing Falaye, urged the court to grant him bail, assuring that the defendant would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until 9 April for hearing.
