CBM was established in 2022 as a youth-driven support group for President Bola Tinubu during his 2023 election campaign.

The movement was used to mobilise, educate, and empower youths and women in support of Mr Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that Mr Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, presented the appointment letter to Obi Cubana in a video posted on CBM’s X page on Tuesday.

Seyi, CBM’s patron, was joined by the Director-General, Francis Shoga, the National Coordinator, Favour Abayomi, and Stanley Uzochukwu, Chairman of Stanel Group, in presenting the letter to the Cubana Group chairman in Abuja.

Speaking during the presentation, Seyi reaffirmed CBM’s commitment to collaboration, leadership, and unity for national development in line with his father’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He thanked the 50-year-old for his consistent support of the current administration and acknowledged his influence among Nigerian youths.

“I want to first of all thank you for your support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to youths and young people in Nigeria, especially in the Southern region. On behalf of the City Boy Movement, we want to present to you your appointment letter as the regional director of the South East for City Boy and on behalf of the City Boy Movement we say congratulations”, he said.

However, the Anambra-born revealed on his Instagram page on Tuesday that the presentation of his appointment letter was marked by meaningful discussions covering a wide range of topics.

He added that he was aware of the mixed reactions the appointment generated but emphasised that he believes lasting change stems from constructive engagement, rather than remaining on the sidelines.

“Hello my friends and family; I bring you good tidings. Last night my long time friend and brother, Seyi Tinubu paid me a visit at my home. Regarding my recent appointment as South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from constructive engagement, not standing apart.

“Service continues to guide me, and this new role does nothing to alter my commitment to integrity, community growth, and responsible leadership. I’ve learned that influence is limited from the outside—so yes, here we are! I am a City Boy through and through, inside and out”, he said.

Key to realising the nation’s aspirations

Obi Cubana emphasised that Nigerians hold the key to realising the nation’s aspirations.

He affirmed his commitment to engaging and including every Nigerian in his activities in the new role.

“Our nation’s leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is equally a City Boy and a man of commerce. All of us need all of us in order to achieve our national aspirations and I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along in all that I do.

“Let’s respect differing views, keep conversations vibrant, and stay focused on building real value. The moment is now —we move! Thank you for the continued support and goodwill as we work toward a more inclusive future,” Obi Cubana said.

Backstory

This newspaper gathered that Obi Cubana’s appointment came two months after he urged Mr Tinubu to heed the appeals of the Igbo people and release Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu.

In November 2025, this newspaper reported that Judge James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja had convicted Kanu for acts of terrorism and for his membership of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

At the time, the businessman noted that numerous efforts were already underway to address the issues and urged the Igbo community to avoid further division.

He wrote on his Instagram page: “On two auspicious occasions amidst numerous engagements within the last 3 months, myself alongside other well meaning Nigerians have sat down on a table with the Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kanu and then with the Son of the President Seyi Tinubu and the burning issues discussed were the insecurity, the new tax regime as it affects businesses, ease of doing business in the country, customs, FIRS, Nafdac and the political solutions that can lead to the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“A lot of people have been tirelessly working behind the scenes, devoting time and resources to see that our brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free and reunited with us. Tempers are high, words are being exchanged but one thing is also clear; we all want MNK out, and we will never rest till MNK is out.

Most importantly, we are working on a Nigeria where each of us can live and operate freely without fear regardless of ethnicity, religion and culture.”

He emphasised that while constructive agitations form the foundation of great societies, lasting solutions can only be achieved through dialogue and negotiation.
