Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, on Wednesday flagged off the construction of the Kayarda–Tasha–Masakawa–Dan Alhaji Road in Lere Local Government Area, describing it as a vital part of his administration’s Rural Transformation Agenda.
The governor also said the road project will modernise rural infrastructure, boost local economies, and reduce the urban-rural divide.

Lere Local Government is predominantly agrarian and popular for producing maize, soybeans, tomatoes, beans, and sugarcane.
“Lere is Nigeria’s leading maize-producing hub and a major contributor of soybeans, tomatoes, beans, and sugarcane. Improved connectivity will significantly enhance livelihoods and strengthen our economy,” Mr Sani said.

He added that the new road construction would open economic corridors, link farming communities, create jobs, and secure long-term prosperity for residents.
The governor also announced President Bola Tinubu had approved the urgent reconstruction of the Pambegua–Saminaka–Jos Road. He disclosed that the Saminaka–Kano road was also under active consideration because of its strategic importance to trade and integration.
At the event, the Emir of Lere, Umar Suleiman, described the project as a long-awaited intervention to transform the area.
“This road will change the story of our people. For decades, farmers have struggled to take their produce to markets due to bad roads. Today, hope has returned,” the emir said.
He also praised Mr Sani for prioritising rural communities: “Our governor has shown that development is not only for the cities. By investing here, he is investing in the future of Kaduna State.”
Residents also hailed the development, saying it will ease the difficulties of transportation and trade.
A traditional title holder and a community leader in Kayarda, Ibrahim Zubairu, said the project will cut costs for farmers and raise their income. “We usually lose part of our harvest because of delays and poor access roads. With this new construction, we can take our maize and tomatoes to the market faster and at better prices.”

Another resident, Lawal Gambo, expressed relief over the governor’s assurance on federal roads. “The Pambegua–Saminaka–Jos road has been a nightmare for travellers. Knowing that reconstruction is coming gives us confidence that the government is listening to us.”
Gov Sani welcomed defectors
In a political show at the event, Mr Sani welcomed officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lere who defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He described their decision as a vote of confidence in the APC’s “inclusive and people-centred governance,” while pledging fairness, equity, and service to all citizens regardless of political affiliation or background.
The governor appreciated community leaders and stakeholders who commended his administration’s interventions in Lere and other parts of Kaduna State, noting that their support would further energise him to deliver on his mandate.
“With collective resolve, we will ensure these projects drive sustainable growth, enhance prosperity, and improve the quality of life of our people,” Mr Sani said.
