Ahmed Wadada, representing Nasarawa West in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, has resigned his membership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
This is contained in a letter addressed to the Chairperson, Social Democratic Party (SDP), Tudun Kofa Ward in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The letter cited by the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday, was titled “Notification of Resignation from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).”
It reads: “I am writing to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), effective immediately.

“This decision has not been taken lightly but I feel compelled to do so due to the lingering internal crisis that has plagued our party for some time.
“As you are aware, these internal conflicts have led to serious division and litigations within the party.
“I appreciate the opportunities given to me while being a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and grateful for the experiences and relationship built.
“However, I feel it is time for me to move on and explore new avenues.”
Mr Wadada, who chairs the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Senate, was elected a senator in 2023 on SDP platform.
He had earlier been as a member of the House of Representatives where he served as the chairman of the Capital Market Committee. He was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time.
Although, he did not disclose his next party, there are indications that he would join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Wadada visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa recently.
The APC has been the sole beneficiary of the gale of defections in the upper chamber in the recent past, increasing its number from 59 in 2023 to 70 as of July.
The SDP is now left with only one member in the Senate.
