Akinpelu Johnson, the chairmanship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, has decried late commencement of the state’s council election in the area on Saturday.
Mr Johnson, Vice Chairman of the local government, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.

NAN reports that the Voting did not commence at Ward E, Polling Unit 10, where the APC candidate voted, did not commence until 11.30 a.m. owing to late arrival of officials Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC)
According to Mr Johnson, the late commencement of the exercise was quite discouraging.

”The delay in the commencement of the election exercise serves as a painful experience.
“I think LASIEC needs to gear up, they need to redesign the way they operate.
“I will still commend them, because they brought in the materials, everything was neat, but they also brought all that is necessary for the voting exercise,” Mr Johnson said.
He, however, urged voters who had gone home due to the delay in the commencement of the exercise, to return and perform their civic duties.
“We will still plead that voters who have gone home are discouraged, to come out and vote. It is their civic duties,
“it is their right to come out and vote and I plead that they should come out and vote for the candidate of their choice,” the APC chairmanship said.
On his part, Francis Adebisi, the APC vice chairmanship candidate, commended LASIEC on the seamless process despite the delay in its commencement.
“Well, the delay in the commencement of the exercise was not so much. We were informed that it was because of a little logistic problem from LASIEC, which is normal, but we thank God, we were able to meet up.

“The voting exercise was so fantastic and peaceful. A lot of people came out to exercise their civic duties, especially the youth in the community.
“The people are voting, and everything is so peaceful and encouraging.
“The voters on ground at the end of the day all cast their votes, and are happy.
“Since the exercise is between 8.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. we still have a lot of time, and a lot of people are still voting,” Mr Adebisi said. (NAN)
