The battle between good and evil forces for the benefit of humanity has always been a recurring theme in movies.
Whether they are themed after Norse folklore, like Thor, Vikings, Troy’s Odyssey or Yoruba mythology, the idea of internal and external conflicts among deities or other spiritual entities will always be explored.

The intrigues from the spiritual realm continue in this latest episode of Koleoso, which is currently showing on YouTube.
The movie opens with the Aroni Initiates summoning Osogbemi (Saliu Gbolade) for disgracing the other initiates by sending Jawesoro on a journey of no return.
Even though he tries to explain that Jawesoro is not innocent, they cast a spell on him.

He invokes Koleoso (Ibrahim Yekini), who spirits him away, but not before receiving a spell that leaves his arm transfixed and holding a machete.
Seven days later, Koleoso is still holding the machete up, which can’t leave his hand without first spilling blood.
The combination of Osogbemi’s other children, Efun (Akinfolarin Olamide) and Oshobola (Oluwakemi Apesin), could not remedy the situation.
After incantations before the Ile ‘Osho’, which is tattooed on Koleoso’s back, an ointment comes out, and Oshogbemi uses it to free his son.
Meanwhile, the Aroni Initiates have contracted Oguta to attack Koleoso’s family. He recruits a team, but they all refuse out of fear.
Okuta then kidnaps Oshobola and Efun and takes them to the initiates’ shrine for the ultimate showdown.
Review
The fifth part of Koleoso continues the intense narrative about the family’s use of spiritual powers.
Previous parts have seen conflicts with other powerful warlocks (like Jawesoro) and the internal struggles of the family members as they navigate their inherited powers and consequences.
As viewers enjoy the gripping saga of family wizardry, power, and unseen forces, they are challenged to take sides in the never-ending battle between good and evil.
While Koleoso’s family may seem like the victims in the movies, how does one explain Oshobola’s use of her powers?

Not only does she run a brothel, she bewitches Desmond (Tajudeen Tosin), her call girl’s boyfriend and turns him into her slave, around the house and in her bedroom.
The movie tries, but fails, to take olden themes and adapt them to modern-day realities.
This failed attempt may limit its audience, but as it is a continuing story, there might yet be hope that ‘Koleoso’ is the next fantasy superhero/villain film from Nollywood.
Verdict: 5/10
