According to the organisers, the carnival will take place from 21 to 27 December, featuring an array of events that spotlight the state’s deep-rooted cultural heritage alongside contemporary artistic showcases.
They further disclosed that the ‘Edo Carnival 2025 Shinefest’ event will unfold in two major phases, starting with a vibrant pre-festival build-up.
One of the highlights of this phase is the Dreamalive Talent Quest, which will commence on 1 November and scout for musical talent across the state’s three senatorial districts.
The organisers noted that this initiative will provide emerging artists a platform to showcase their talents, with selected performers earning the opportunity to feature at the grand finale.
In addition, they announced that the Shine Beer Barn and Christmas Grotto will open on 14 December, transforming a central location in Benin City into a lively hub for entertainment, drinks, and festive activities.
The organisers highlighted that the venue will host a variety of attractions, including comedy nights and themed beer tastings, all designed to create an early festive atmosphere and attract both residents and tourists to the city.
Heritage Carnival
The organisers further announced that the seven-day celebration of Edo’s rich cultural and creative heritage will commence with a vibrant heritage carnival, set to take place across three locations yet to be disclosed.
They revealed that the festivities will feature masquerade processions, traditional wrestling, musical dramas, and age-grade dance performances, all bringing the streets alive with rhythm and tradition.
On 23 December, the celebrations will move to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City for a grand Cultural Fiesta and Food Festival.
The organisers also noted that all 18 local government areas in the state will participate in a parade showcasing Edo’s cultural diversity.
Food enthusiasts will be treated to various local and Nigerian cuisines, cooking competitions, and palm wine tastings.
“Christmas Eve takes to the water with the Shine Boat Regatta. Held on the Ogba River or another scenic water body in Edo South, this event will feature beautifully decorated boats, traditional water rites, marine-themed fashion shows, and awards for the most creative vessels.
“On Christmas Day, attention turns to the state’s famed Igun Street, where ‘Through the Eyes of Edo’, an art and craft exhibition, will spotlight the works of local artisans, sculptors, and photographers. Visitors will explore installations celebrating the state’s legendary bronze heritage, with interactive storytelling zones bringing Edo’s past to life,” said the organisers.

They further noted that on 26 December, the spotlight will turn to fashion and femininity with the Miss Shinefest Beauty and Fashion Night.
According to them, eighteen contestants will compete in traditional and evening wear, while ten Edo-based designers will unveil collections inspired by local heritage.
They added that the event will also showcase ‘Ancestral Futurism’, a unique fusion of tradition and innovation, which will take centre stage on the runway.
The organisers revealed that more than 40 models would grace the catwalk in what they promised would be an elegant and empowering evening.
They also stated that the festival will conclude on 27 December with the Grand Shine Concert in Benin City.
The event will feature high-energy performances from Shalipopi, HammerBoi, and the Dreamalive Talent Quest finalists.
They said, “With fireworks, a state-of-the-art LED stage, and surprise celebrity appearances, the concert is expected to draw massive crowds and spectacularly close the festival. The night will also include the crowning of Miss Shinefest, bringing the week-long celebration to a glittering end.
“Edo Carnival in 2025 is more than just a cultural event; it’s a bold statement about Edo’s past, present, and future identity. Organisers describe it as a celebration of everything that makes Edo unique, from its traditions and talent to its ambition and creativity. With a blend of heritage and modern entertainment, SHINEfest is poised to position Edo as a leading cultural destination in Nigeria and beyond.”
