Nigerian singer David “Davido” Adeleke has appealed to US President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the forthcoming Osun State governorship election amid concerns over possible violence and disruption of the democratic process.
The “Timeless” hitmaker leads the youth campaign mobilisation team for the incumbent Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, his uncle and the Accord Party (AP) governorship candidate.

Davido appealed in a letter titled “A Call for Attention to President Donald Trump”, days after he said during a livestream with content creator Carter Efe that he would seek Mr Trump’s intervention if the elections were rigged.
He said he would escalate his concerns by taking his protest to the White House and informing other influential figures worldwide.

In the letter he shared on his social media pages on Tuesday, the “Unavailable” singer said concerns over possible intimidation and violence had increased ahead of the election.
Democratic process
He also raised concerns that such incidents could disrupt the democratic process.
He wrote: “President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election. There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.
“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected. We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”
Backstory
Davido’s letter came six days after he appealed to an unnamed politician from Imo State to allow a free and fair election in the state.
PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that he urged residents to remain peaceful, reject violence and protect the integrity of the electoral process ahead of the governorship election.

He also called on the unnamed political figure not to interfere in the election.
The singer urged residents to show the world that they are peaceful, courageous and committed to building a better future for the state.
He further called on politicians from other parties to respect the democratic process and allow the people to choose their leaders freely.
Davido also encouraged voters to turn out in large numbers, cast their ballots peacefully, reject intimidation and make their voices heard.
He stressed that the future of Osun State rests in the hands of its people.
