Tanzanian Premier League club Singida Black Stars SC has cleared Nigerian goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of match-fixing allegations following an internal investigation conducted by the club.
The development brings relief to the Super Eagles shot-stopper who had earlier been suspended while the club looked into concerns raised after a series of mistakes in recent matches.

In an official statement signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jonathan Kassano, the management confirmed that the investigation found no evidence linking the goalkeeper to match manipulation.
According to the club, the probe was triggered by complaints and concerns expressed by fans, stakeholders and some club officials after recent performances involving the Nigerian international.

However, after reviewing the available information and conducting its internal checks, Singida Black Stars said the allegations could not be substantiated.
Obasogie reacts
Reacting after being cleared, Obasogie expressed gratitude to those who supported him during the period of uncertainty.
“Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Amas Obasogie. I’m so happy everything against me… the allegation has been resolved,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook page.
“I want to say a big thank you to everybody who stood by me, who wished me well, who prayed for me, who called me on WhatsApp call, Instagram, trying to know what is happening. I’m really happy and grateful everything has been resolved.”
The goalkeeper also thanked the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), friends, family members and football stakeholders who believed in his innocence.
“I want to say a big thank you to God Almighty for this wonderful thing he has done for me. And I want to say a big thank you to the NFF who believe in me, who know what I can do also,” he added.
Obasogie also acknowledged the support of several individuals, including former Edo State Deputy Governor and Director General of the National Institute of Sports, Philip Shaibu, as well as friends and colleagues who rallied around him during the investigation.
Support from club and teammates
The 26-year-old also appreciated Singida Black Stars for carrying out the investigation and ultimately clearing his name.
“I want to say a big thank you to my team, Singida Black Stars, who has done their own investigation. They found out there is nothing and they decided to vindicate me and to let peace reign,” he said.
He also thanked his captain, teammates and fans for their support.
“The love is so massive… to my lovely fans, I want to say a big thank you for your prayers and your wishes. It goes a long way and it gave me a lot of hope.”
Background
Obasogie was suspended by Singida Black Stars in February pending investigation into allegations of match-fixing. The decision was announced in a disciplinary statement issued by the club on 27 February.
At the time, the club stated that the suspension was provisional while its disciplinary committee examined the allegations.
The Nigerian goalkeeper had featured for the Tanzanian side in a 1–1 league draw against Namungo shortly before the suspension was announced.

Obasogie has been part of the Super Eagles set-up for about three years and was included in Nigeria’s squad that finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Match-fixing allegations are treated as serious integrity breaches in football, with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) maintaining strict regulations to protect the credibility of the sport.
With the investigation now concluded and the allegations dismissed, Obasogie is expected to resume his career without the cloud that briefly hung over his professional reputation.
