The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced a fresh nationwide electronic membership registration exercise as it begins preparations to strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the exercise will commence on Monday, 31 August 2026, and will be conducted across wards nationwide.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC urged existing members, supporters and prospective members to participate in the exercise.
Mr Morka said existing members would be required to validate their membership, while new and intending members could use the exercise to formally join the party.

“Existing members are expected to validate their membership, while new and intending members are encouraged to register and join the progressive family,” he said.
NIN requirement
The APC said prospective registrants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid National Identification Number (NIN).
The party said the requirement was part of measures to improve the reliability of its membership database and strengthen the integrity of its registration process.
Mr Morka said the exercise was aimed at moving the party’s membership register into a fully digital format while improving how membership information is accessed and managed.
According to him, the electronic system will provide the party with more efficient access to membership data for planning and management decisions.

“The E-Registration Exercise is designed to digitise the Party’s membership register, ensure the integrity of membership records, enhance efficient access to membership data for planning and management decisions, promote internal democracy, and strengthen the Party’s commitment to democratic innovation in Nigeria,” he said.
2027 preparations
The exercise comes less than a year before the 2027 general elections, as political parties intensify efforts to consolidate their structures and mobilise supporters across the country.
The APC, which controls the presidency and has a strong presence across the states, has in recent months intensified its reconciliation and mobilisation activities ahead of the elections.
The electronic registration could also provide the party with a clearer picture of its membership base at the ward level and help it identify areas requiring greater mobilisation.
Beyond recruitment, the exercise is expected to provide a centralised database through which the party can validate existing members, register new entrants and manage its membership records more efficiently.
The use of NIN as a requirement could also help the party reduce multiple registrations and strengthen verification of members, particularly amid recurring disputes among political parties over membership figures and competing membership registers.
