Veteran Nollywood actor and broadcaster, Pete Edochie, has shared thoughts on some issues of national concern.
The septuagenarian, who turns 79 on Saturday, cited insecurity as his greatest concern.

According to him, the present government has done a lot to help stabilise the country.
“When Tinubu came in, the price of goods was so high, but right now I don’t know what happened. Things are coming down now drastically,” Mr Edochie observed.

He then urged the government to deploy the same template it used in bringing down the price of foodstuff, to solving te nation’s power and security challenges.
“I think a lot of us would be fine. There are three major tribes in this country. Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. What is killing the country is suspicion, mistrust. Somebody from the north is the president of the country. Somebody from the south distrusts him.
Then you reverse the position. When the person from the South is the president, the people from the North distrust him. For as long as we keep doing this, we’re not to get anywhere,” he said.
A case for State Police
Making the case for state policing, the veteran said the federal government does not appear willing to move forward with it.
“All through the previous year, there has been all this talk about state police. What is preventing them from realising that? I don’t know?
“If we introduce state police, it will be very good for us because to a very extent we can contain all the insurrection and insecurity. The police will do something to check if not completely, at least to a large extent.
He further opined that it’s time we ask ourselves why we have not improved as a nation.
“Why must there be this consistency in going backwards? It doesn’t make much sense, you know, I believe we have state police. A lot can be achieved,” Mr Edochie stated.
Other matters
The veteran actor decried a situation where he spends up to N40,000 on power daily.
According to him, he seems to be working just to earn money to pay his light bill.

“I pay N10,000 every day for light in my house. Then I spend an additional N30,000: N20,000 for diesel and N10,000 for fuel.
“On the whole, I spend 40,000 every single day on light. It disturbs me a lot. I mean, I’m not working just for light. It disturbs me a great deal,” the ‘Lionheart’ actor revealed.
According to him, people are interested in getting into politics just to enjoy power and not because they are bothered about what is happening to the common man.
