The Motherland 2025 team brought a wave of Nigerian pride and cultural vibrance to the streets of New York as it joined this year’s Nigerian Independence Day Parade.
Motherland 2025 is a celebration of Nigerian creativity, culture, and commerce in Abuja and Lagos scheduled for December 2025. The festival features music, fashion, sport, food, film, business forums and workshops to drive diaspora investment and international collaboration.

The participation marked another milestone in the festival’s ongoing international roadshow, designed to connect Nigeria with its diaspora and showcase the country’s creativity, innovation, and spirit.
Building on earlier appearances at Africon in Atlanta and the United Nations General Assembly, the organisers said in a statement that the New York stop underscored the festival’s mission to celebrate Nigeria’s heritage while strengthening bonds between Nigerians at home and abroad.

Additionally, they added that The Motherland Roadshow is travelling through key global cities, including Atlanta, New York, Houston, Washington, D.C., and London. At each stop, the team shares the festival’s vision while spotlighting Nigerian creativity, innovation, and economic opportunities.

Activities include community engagements, networking events, and cultural showcases to strengthen ties between Nigerians abroad and at home.

In New York, founding team members Chidimma Nwankwo and Sandra Oboh joined the New York Nigerian community to celebrate Nigeria’s heritage. They emphasised the importance of cultural exchange and deepening ties ahead of the inaugural Motherland festival in December in Abuja and Lagos.
The Motherland team distributed hundreds of early-access passes at the parade, sparking excitement. Attendees shared their enthusiasm, and many had already confirmed travel plans.
“Motherland is about creating lasting bridges and creating space for Nigerians at home and abroad to celebrate and promote our culture”, said co-founder Chidimma Nwankwo.
“New York has a vibrant Nigerian community, so we had to include NYC on our roadshow schedule. By participating in events like the Nigerian Independence Day Parade, we are reaffirming our commitment to global Nigerians and inviting them to join the Motherland movement.
The buzz for Motherland 2025 is growing, and we are excited to open our doors to everyone visiting Lagos and Abuja this December. Today alone, hundreds of New Yorkers signed up to join us.”
