Nigeria’s Abu Azeez says he is very excited to be one of the nominees for the goal of the tournament at the recently concluded Beach Soccer World Cup held in Nassau, Bahamas.
Abu, who is a key member of the Nigeria Beach soccer team, the SuperSand Eagles, on Tuesday told PREMIUM TIMES that he was quite elated to get the top recognition.
“I feel so good and happy because it’s a very big honour to be nominated,” Azeez who scored three goals for Nigeria in their opening game against Italy in Bahamas told PREMIUM TIMES.
The Enyimba star, who also prides himself as the youngest player ever to play in the Beach Soccer World Cup, said he was already fulfilled with his nomination and would care less if eventually he does not emerge winner.
“Irrespective of the result, I am a little bit accomplished,” the talented player quipped when asked what chance he had to emerge tops among the nominees.
Azeez was just 15 years and 169 days old when he represented Nigeria against Brazil at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in 2009.
On Tuesday, the wonder strike by Azeez against Mexico was nominated for the Goal of the Tournament along with other goals from Paolo Palmacci, Daniel Cedeno, Bruno Xavier, Peyman Hosseini, Gabriele Gori, Dejan Stankovic, Bruno Novo, Rodrigo, Takasuke Goto, Boguslaw Saganowski and Jean Francois.
The winner of the prestigious accolade will be announced by Fifa at the end of voting on Monday.
