Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho has been dropped from Manchester City’s provisional squad list for their pre-season tour, according to the Manchester Evening News.
In a 32-man roster for the planned tour of Germany and China, the 19-year-old Nigerian forward was omitted, a development which has now raised hopes that he may eventually be allowed to represent Nigeria at Rio Olympics where he his in the provisional squad for the Dream Team VI.
It is understood that more players may miss out on the Manchester City tour as the list named by Coach Pep Guardiola is still subject to change subject to visa applications.
The Citizens initially blocked Nigeria’s attempt to have Iheanacho in their Olympic squad, with the club insisting they would have him for pre-season rather than allow him represent Nigeria at the Games in Brazil.
While he has not been listed for the tours of Germany and China, it is however believed he could still be added to the squad for the other pre-season games against Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in China.
Iheanacho scored 14 goals last season mostly coming off the bench, and will hope to play a more prominent role at the Etihad in the coming season.
