It was not supposed to be a possibility but Stephen Curry’s 36 points ensured that NBA defending champions, Golden State Warriors, were alive and kicking in the defense of their crown.
With the team down 3-1 after the first four games of the Western Conference final against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the NBA’s MVP, said on court after victory in Game 5, “We are not going home”.
And he led that comeback brilliantly on Monday night as he made five three-pointers in the second half.
For the Thunder, it was an almighty choke after leading the series 3-1. They led on Monday by 13 in the first half and eight early in the third quarter before losing out to Curry and the Warriors.
After the comeback, one of the NBA’s most famous players, Magic Johnson, wrote on Twitter, “This is what I wanted, a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals, Cleveland vs. Golden State with both teams healthy!”
And so it will be a rematch of last season’s final, in which Warriors prevailed over a Lebron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers. The final tips off at Oakland on Thursday with the Warriors on home court.
