Enyimba International posted a 2-0 victory in Saturday’s Oriental derby in Umuahia over regional rivals, FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
The Peoples’ Elephant scored a goal in each half as they romped to another win over the big spenders who they beat 4-0 in this same fixture last season.
Still fresh from their midweek heroics, coming to Lagos to get a vital away point against a stubborn MFM FC side, Enyimba made sure they kept the momentum on Saturday, going all out to secure victory in the derby clash against their regional rivals.
Goals for Enyimba in the NPFL Match Day 17 tie came from the boots of Ikechukwu Ibenegbu and Daniel Etor who missed the last trip to Lagos.
Ibenegbu netted the opening goal in the 17th minute when he volleyed home a half-hearted clearance by the FC Ifeanyi Ubah defenders from 16 yards.
Enyimba’s second goal came on the hour-mark and this time it was Etor who doubled the advantage for the hosts after a great team effort and assist from teammate Mfon Udoh.
Enyimba with this win have increased their points tally to 24 points; narrowing the gap between them and FC Ifeanyi Ubah to only two points; albeit with three matches outstanding.
The defending champions are at the moment in 9thspot.
